Peer Review Process

Pre-evaluation

Once the document is received, the editor-in-chief will verify compliance with the basic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines and, together with the Scientific Coordination team, will assess aspects related to research ethics, relevance and suitability to the journal's scope, as well as the interest and clarity of the writing.

At this stage, an initial acceptance or rejection decision will be issued to proceed with the review process. The deadline for notifying authors shall not exceed 20 days.

Peer Review

The peer review process applies to all manuscripts classified as Original Articles, Reviews, Technical Reports, and Case Reports. The entire editorial process is managed through the journal's online editorial management system.

If the article meets all the requirements outlined in the pre-evaluation stage, pairs of reviewers with expertise in the article's subject matter will be invited. If any of the invited professionals declines the invitation, the Editorial Committee will invite another professional to carry out the task.

This evaluation stage will follow a double-blind format, and external reviewers will verify originality, authenticity of the presented data, relevance to the scientific community, and methodological quality. They may then issue their recommendation, with the option to accept, accept with modifications, or reject, providing justification in all cases through a report submitted to the Editorial Committee.

If the two reviewers' assessments differ, the article will be sent to a third specialized reviewer, and the Responsible Editor will resolve the discrepancies. If the final recommendation is to reject, the authors will be notified and the reasons for the decision will be communicated.

If the recommendation is to accept with modifications, all observations and recommendations made by the reviewers will be compiled in a report sent to the authors, who must resubmit the revised article within no more than 30 days. The new version of the document will be sent back to the reviewers a second time, and they will determine whether it adequately addresses the requested modifications. Once the article is deemed to meet the approval criteria and is accepted, the Editorial Committee will notify the authors of the decision.

Copyediting (separate from the review process)

Once pre-evaluation and peer review are complete, the copyeditor may issue recommendations to ensure that the writing is coherent and clear. Where necessary, terminology will be adjusted to align with international guidelines for scientific writing. Grammatical, spelling, and typographical issues will be corrected, and references will be checked for accuracy and compliance with the journal's adopted format. Once the text reaches the end of this stage, it will be forwarded to Editorial Production to begin graphic editing prior to publication on the website.
